JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Youth Specialist–El Concilio (20 – 25 hours per week)

Supervised by:  Program Supervisor

Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish/English, highly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. 2 years’ experience in Social Work or an Associate’s Degree will also be considered. Experience in community outreach, public relations, and good written and oral communications. Hands-on experience in working with adolescents and teens. Must be culturally competent, innovative, and a team player.

Primary Objective: To assist in providing services, education, training, and activities to the youth in the Community Healing Center El Concilio afterschool program.

General Statement of Duties:

Work closely with the Community Liaison Support Specialist, Prevention Associate and the El Concilio Team with the implementation process in overseeing the program’s day-to-day operations. Always represent the program as a role model, assist in community outreach projects, and provide advocacy, information, and referrals as needed. The Program Supervisor will assign all other tasks. You must have a valid driver’s license and pass Metro Transits eligibility requirements/ orientation to assist in transporting kids in minivans. Help prepare a simple evening meal.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the El Concilio After School Program to ensure the program provides a safe place where teens can go between the hours of 2:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

2. Monitor and assist in life skills educational training programs to increase skills, change behaviors and attitudes, and empower youth to make healthier choices as needed.

3. Assist with recruitment and enrollment activities when kids enter
the program.

4. Report all incidents or concerns regarding suspected child abuse or neglect related to any program participants immediately, according to agency policy.

5. Advocate, link, coordinate, and monitor participants’ needs with appropriate staff, agencies, or community partners for additional services.

6. Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to assess, plan, and review the needs of teens/ adolescents as needed.

7. Nurture and maintain healthy relationships with parents and other community affiliations.

8. Maintain required documentation and record services in an accurate and timely manner as required by regulating entities, accreditation organization, and management.

9. Provide transportation, as deemed necessary (must have a clean and valid driver’s license). Metro will provide training.

10. Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts.

11. Prepare and serve a simple evening meal.

Education: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Qualifications/Competencies:

Knowledge and skills in developmental needs of youth

· Strong familiarity and connection with the North side community and regional service providers.

· Ability to engage in positive relationships with adolescents, teens, staff and community and agency representatives.

· Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to operate computer and office equipment.

· The capacity to respond to the needs of a diverse community, cultural and linguistic competence.

· Working knowledge of the system of services needed to address the needs of adolescents and teens.
