Job Title: REGISTERED NURSE $35.20/hr includes Hazard Pay

Position Reports To: Nursing Supervisor and Assistant Nursing Supervisor

Shift Requirement:  Full-time, day shift

Supervision Exercised: None

General Statement of Duties:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the monitoring and treatment of patients in sub-acute detoxification and for provision of medical services for patients in residential treatment. This is done under the direction and supervision of the Provider-in-Charge and in coordination with the Clinical Supervisor. The Registered Nurse reports to the Nursing and Assistant Nursing Supervisors and takes direction from the Medical Director and the Clinical Director of Residential Services.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Provide access to care services in accordance with the Access to Care section of the Standard Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Provide medical services on-site as necessary, in accordance with the Introduction to the Detox Unit section of the Standard Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Provide and document direct patient care.
  • Accurately collect history and physical data on each client upon admission.
  • Dispense prescribed medications according to the written, standing orders, and/or verbal orders of the physician in charge.
  • Dispense over-the-counter medications per consultation and/or standing orders with the physician in charge.
  • Maintain patient records according to CARF, State of Michigan and Community Healing Centers’ policies and standards.
  • Screen and assess the medical needs of all clients.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all clients and their records as required by Federal HIPAA Laws and CHC policies and standards.
  • Inform and educate clients regarding detoxification processes and procedures. Interpret any laboratory results, as needed.
  • Provide referrals for physical health issues upon discharge from detoxification/treatment or any time, as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies, equipment and medications, as needed to perform adequate care responsibilities.
  • Assist in training and orientation for new staff, as directed.
  • Abide by the rules and laws of the licensing, according to the Center of Substance Abuse Services, under Public Acts 55 and 56, of the State of Michigan.
  • Serve on committees or task forces, etc., as directed.
  • Participate in daily shift change team meetings.
  • Comply with the required protective measures, as specified by Community Healing Centers’ Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
  • Document annual training related to OSHA and CARF standards regarding and Universal Precautions/Infection Control.
  • Assist the resident
  • Assist the residential coordinator with all aspects of the intake and admission process.
  • Administer the Mantoux TB skin test to clients and staff, as clinically indicated.
  • Qualification/Competencies:
  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Current licensure in the State of Michigan, required.
  • BLS or CPR, required.
  • Education or experience in the treatment of chemical dependency, preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Direct contact with clients with mental health and substance use/abuse disorders.
  • Injectable drug abusers are at high risk for tuberculosis infection and other illnesses. All staff are required to be screened for tuberculosis and understand that exposure to tuberculosis is possible.
  • Work will be performed at the Jim Gilmore Treatment Community Healing Center of Kalamazoo, indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Some light lifting and carrying, prolonged standing and handling of hazardous materials.
