The Wright for Kids Fund at Community Healing Centers supports programs that help over 2,900 children and families in our community, every year.
The fund’s mission is to fund programs that treat and prevent child abuse and neglect in Southwest, MI.
In Kalamazoo County
- On average, 23 cases of child abuse and neglect are reported every day.
- In 2014, there were 1,716 confirmed cases of child abuse and/or neglect of children ages 0-17.
Of those confirmed cases, 51% (881), were ages0-5.
- Kalamazoo County has a rate of 31 victims per 1,000 children, compared to the state average of 14 per 1,000.
The Wright for Kids Fund at CHC allows us to provide compasisonate, specialized care for children who are victims of sexual or severe physical abuse, while helping them learn to deal with the anger, shame, and guilt associated with being a victim of abuse.
Our specially trained staff provide individual counseling for child victims and their non-offending family members, family therapy, and support groups for parents. This is at no charge to families, regardless of their ability to pay.
We provide intensive in-home treatment for children and vital parenting support for their families. With these services, the incidence and prevalence of abuse and neglect, developmental delays, and behavioral and emotional disorders can be reduced!
We provide child advocates, targeted after-school programs, and community prevention and education services.
