Hi! I’m Maxine. I’m 28 years old and the mother of two boys. My youngest son was just born on February 13, 2018.
When did you start using and what was your journey like from when you started using till you came to CHC?
I started using meth in 2016. I was struggling and feeling like I wasn’t moving forward in life. I had been drug and alcohol free for 6 years and was on probation for a DUI. I was trying to make it all work; trying to use the bus to get to all of my appointments for probation, work and appointments for my son. I felt overwhelmed and hopeless. I started using meth because I felt like I needed an extra boost to help me get things done. It started out as 1-2 times a month, then weekly and then in about 3 months it was daily. No one knew I was using and I didn’t think it was that bad because I was still functioning okay. I then discovered I was pregnant and continued to use for a couple of weeks. One day, I got into an argument with my boyfriend and left our home. He called the police and accused me of domestic violence. The police found me and stopped me on the street. They found meth on me (he had placed it in my bag) and I was arrested. I tested positive for meth and spent some time in jail. Once out of jail I was placed on probation and informed that I would spend more time in jail if I did not complete certain requirements including staying clean. I became involved with the Women’s Specialty Program in October of 2017. I have given birth to a healthy baby boy and have remained drug and alcohol free.
What made you decide to come to Community Healing Centers?
I wanted to stay out of jail and I wanted to be a good mom for my children.
How do you feel Community Healing Centers?
They break things down so they make sense. They help me understand how things really are as compared to how I expect them to be. They guide me through my struggles with relationships and teach me what healthy friendships are.
What are your future plans?
Stay sober, go back to school for counseling or social work. I want to live someplace warm.
