Medical Assistant (MAT Program) 
Full-Time 40 hours per week
$16 – $18/hour + hazard pay

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant in the Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program plays a vital role in supporting patients undergoing treatment for substance use disorders. This position provides clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers, ensuring efficient and compassionate patient care. The Medical Assistant is responsible for facilitating patient intake, assisting with medical exams, monitoring vital signs, administering medications under supervision, and ensuring compliance with program protocols.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Embrace, support, and implement Community Healing Center’s vision and values related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Patient Interaction & Support:
Welcome patients, obtain health history, and document information in medical records.
Assist with patient intake processes, including collecting urine samples for drug screening and performing other diagnostic tests as required.
Educate patients about the MAT program, including medication procedures and health risks associated with substance use.
Clinical Assistance:
Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate) and other relevant patient data.
Prepare patients for physical exams and assist healthcare providers during assessments.
Accurately administer prescribed medications, including methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone, under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
Program Compliance & Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR), ensuring compliance with HIPAA and program standards.
Monitor patients for adverse reactions to medications and report concerns to supervising healthcare professionals.
Ensure accurate medication dispensing logs and help track patient adherence to treatment protocols.
Administrative Duties:
Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and clinical areas.
Assist with inventory management of medical supplies and medications.
Coordinate with pharmacies and external providers when necessary to ensure continuity of care.
Collaboration:
Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, addiction counselors, and case managers to provide integrated care.
Participate in team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment adjustments.
Support the program’s overall goals of reducing substance use and improving patient outcomes.

Skills/Abilities:

Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients dealing with substance use disorders.
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a calm demeanor under pressure.
Basic knowledge of pharmacology related to addiction treatment medications.

Education/Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
Previous experience in a healthcare setting, ideally in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or a MAT program.
Licensing/Qualifications:

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
Working Conditions:
Direct contact with alcohol and drug abusers including individuals that may use injectable drugs.
Injectable drug abusers are at elevated risk for tuberculosis infection and other illnesses. All staff are required to be screened for tuberculosis and understand that exposure to tuberculosis is possible.
Influenza and Covid-19 Vaccines, required
May require weekend or evening shifts depending on program hours.
Work will be performed indoors in a climate-controlled office.
